The first computer bug was an actual bug. In 1947, a moth got stuck in the Harvard Mark II computer's relay, causing a malfunction. Grace Hopper, a pioneer of computer programming, taped the moth in the logbook and labeled it "the first actual case of a bug being found."

The first "portable" computer weighed 55 pounds. The IBM 5100, released in 1975, had a built-in monitor and keyboard but was still far from a laptop. You'd need a good chiropractor after carrying it around!

The Caps Lock key is a relic of the typewriter era. It was designed to help typists type in all uppercase without having to hold down the Shift key, a much stiffer action on old mechanical typewriters. Now it's mostly used to accidentally shout at people in emails.

The word "spam" comes from a Monty Python sketch. In the sketch, a group of Vikings sing a chorus of "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam..." over and over again, drowning out the other conversations. It became the perfect metaphor for unwanted, repetitive messages flooding your inbox.

The first mouse was made of wood. Designed by Douglas Engelbart in the 1960s, the original "X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System" was a bulky, wooden shell with a single button and two wheels on the bottom.
